Scotland – Day 8 (Aberdeen)

Scotland – Day 8 (Aberdeen)

Day 8 – Sunday September 24, 2017

On this morning us guys arrive early in the morning and the gals meet us at the airport rental site.   The rental clerk as they most often do tries to sell me on upgrades, insurance, etc. etc..  The one curious thing he tries to sell me is an upgrade for a smaller car.  Why would i pay more for a smaller car when I specifically had asked for a mini van.  I of course say no to all of these and off we go in or black Alahambra SUV mini van. Did I mention none of us had ever driven in a vehicle in another country, much less one that you drive on the left side of the road.  And did i also mention I said no to all of the extras – including adding on another driver?   So I was THE designated Driver.  Did I also mention I quickly figured out why he tried to talk me into a smaller vehicle and why it cost more.  The fricken roads are as narrow as shit and SUV’s and mini vans don’t quite fit into their lanes.  🙁

So after a long nights flight and a bit of a pain in my lower back we started on our 150 mile journey to Aberdeen for a one night stay in a B&B (Aurora Guest House).  I must say after a few minutes of fear and anxiety that driving on the left side isn’t so tough.  My problem was that the steering wheel is on the right side of the vehicle and I find myself shying away from the center line and I bumped the curb more than once and had Jerry flinching several times on our trip.

We arrive at the B&B in one piece about 1PM and although a bit early we try to check in early.  Hmmm, guess we forgot to read the fine print.  It’s Sunday and check in on Sunday’s is 6PM and no one is at home.  So off we go to see some sights for a few hours before check in.  We 1st head to the Beach which is quite crowded despite overcast, rainy, breezy, and about 50 degrees.  I say crowded we only saw one idiot (surfer) actually in the water but appears this is the place to go to hang. We still have a few hours to kill so we head off for the Craigmyle house (For Allen).  on our way back from Craigmyle house we stop at a nice restaurant for sandwiches and coffee.  About 6 PM we finally check in and Jerry and I are pretty much toast and retire for the evening.
