Who Says you can’t go Home again?

Don’t get many nicer days in February than this. Started out in the low 40’s and sunny and by the time we were finished out was close to 60 and still not a cloud in sight. Casey & I decided that this trip would be totally downstream so we took his truck to the Fisherville Boat ramp and left it hoping that we had not bitten off more than we could chew. We figured it was between 6 or 7 miles from his house where we put in.

He was using his trusty Trophy 126 and I was going to use my new (Used) Voyager kayak on it’s (my) maiden voyage. Its a bit of a challenge to drop in by his house as you have to travers some woods and 5 or 6 foot embankment that is often muddy and slippery as hell. Today was no exception to that rule.

I won’t bore you with to many of the details other than to say Casey almost capsized and lost a lure when he got too close to a tree on a nice rapid. I on the other hand had no problem there.

Ok, I will confess that a mile or 2 further I chose the wrong line and ended up getting trapped in some Sycamore roots and having to limbo my way thru them.

We made great time and the highlight for me was kayaking thru Fisherville, where I have some of my all-time favorite memories (Just getting married, and 2 wonderful kids, freezing our asses off, sharing bath water, rabbits, chickens, cows, horses, gardens. I Freaking LOVED IT).

All in all I can’t remember a more pleasant trip.
